This is a poem I wrote on March 2, 2009, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who is concerned about something that they're feeling.
I can't believe it
That feeling is coming on again
But why must I
Experience that feeling,
Especially when
That feeling is forbidden?
I must get
That feeling out of my mind
And out of my heart
There's just too much risk
If I allow myself
To feel that feeling

Test Of Truth
I originally wrote this poem in the early 1990s. When I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it had turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on December 7, 2009, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who doubts the sincerity of a relationship.
Once upon a time, I believed everything you said
I never thought you made any of it up in your head
But friends soon started planting seeds of doubt
And now I need to find out what you're all about
And now I have a test of truth that you need to pass
In order to prove to me our relationship will last
And if you fail, it will mean the end
And I will always wonder if you were my friend
Once upon a time, I believed everything you said
I never thought you made any of it up in your head
But friends soon started planting seeds of doubt
And now I need to find out what you're all about
And now I have a test of truth that you need to pass
In order to prove to me our relationship will last
And if you fail, it will mean the end
And I will always wonder if you were my friend

Tell Me What's On Your Mind
This started out as lyrics I wrote in the early 1990s. I re-worked the lyrics into a poem on November 30, 2009, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who wants to reach out and help someone that they can tell is feeling down and may need someone to talk to about their feelings and thoughts.
When I see you walking around
I can tell that you're feeling down
I wish that you would open up to me
And tell me what's on your mind
I wish that you would understand
That I'll give you a helping hand
And I'm here for you with an ear to lend
Just tell me what's on your mind
When I see you walking around
I can tell that you're feeling down
I wish that you would open up to me
And tell me what's on your mind
I wish that you would understand
That I'll give you a helping hand
And I'm here for you with an ear to lend
Just tell me what's on your mind

Teenage Years
This is a poem I wrote on September 20, 2010, and it's from the point of view of a parent whose child is heading toward the teenage years.
I was told that these years would be tough
But I guess I never believed it enough
Right now, I'm having to put up with a lot
And it's much more than I ever thought
They say it's a phase you're going through
And I just hope that it will be over soon
Because I don't know how much more I can take
It's like waiting for my soul to break
I was told that these years would be tough
But I guess I never believed it enough
Right now, I'm having to put up with a lot
And it's much more than I ever thought
They say it's a phase you're going through
And I just hope that it will be over soon
Because I don't know how much more I can take
It's like waiting for my soul to break

Take Some Responsibility
This is a poem I wrote on March 7, 2011, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who is frustrated with another person who refuses to take responsibility for their actions.
When you've done wrong, you never take the blame
Each time you're caught, it's always the same
You blame it on everything and everyone but you
Even though you know that what you say isn't true
We're tired of your excuses and lies
So listen to a word from the wise
Just take some responsibility for your actions
And you just might be surprised by the reactions
When you've done wrong, you never take the blame
Each time you're caught, it's always the same
You blame it on everything and everyone but you
Even though you know that what you say isn't true
We're tired of your excuses and lies
So listen to a word from the wise
Just take some responsibility for your actions
And you just might be surprised by the reactions

Survival
This started out as lyrics I wrote with my sister in the mid-1980s, and I used the title when I wrote a poem in the early 1990s. When I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on November 9, 2009, and it's about trying to survive in life when times are hard.
In these dark times, it can be hard to survive
Some have to forage for their food
While others have to struggle to make a dime
It's enough to make you want to brood
Some sell their bodies, while others sell their soul
In order to make their ends meet
Sometimes, it all seems to be out of control
And the world seem to be incomplete
So what can we do to bring about a change?
No one should be living this way
We can we do in order to rearrange
Our lives and bring about better days?
In these dark times, it can be hard to survive
Some have to forage for their food
While others have to struggle to make a dime
It's enough to make you want to brood
Some sell their bodies, while others sell their soul
In order to make their ends meet
Sometimes, it all seems to be out of control
And the world seem to be incomplete
So what can we do to bring about a change?
No one should be living this way
We can we do in order to rearrange
Our lives and bring about better days?

Sunshine
This is a poem I wrote on February 22, 2010, and it's about feeling good about life and where you're at in your life at a particular moment.
I'm glad to see the sunshine
And I'm glad to be feeling so fine
I'm grateful for being able to survive
And it feels good to be alive
Everything's going my way
Today is such a beautiful day
It feels so good to make it through the strife
And I'm glad that I can live my life
I'm glad to see the sunshine
And I'm glad to be feeling so fine
I'm grateful for being able to survive
And it feels good to be alive
Everything's going my way
Today is such a beautiful day
It feels so good to make it through the strife
And I'm glad that I can live my life
