This is a poem I wrote on February 14, 2011. However, instead of writing a love poem that day, I decided to write a poem from the point of view of a chocoholic.
Chocolate, it can't be beat
And it's such a tasty treat
It brings you up when you're feeling down
And it creates a smile from a frown
Chocolate brownies and cakes
They are just so fun to make
And no matter what others may say
I wish I could eat it every day

Nothing Lasts Forever
This started out as lyrics I wrote in the early 1990s. I re-worked the lyrics into a poem on August 3, 2009, and it's about how, on the surface, nothing seems to last forever.
It's said that nothing lasts forever
And that everything is fleeting
But I don't believe that it was an accident
That you and I ended up meeting
Our time together may have been brief
And our friendship went up in flames
But if you hadn't put me through these trials
I wouldn't be who I am today
It's said that nothing lasts forever
I don't think that's completely true
It's the things you can't see that last forever
Like the life lessons I learned from you
It's said that nothing lasts forever
And that everything is fleeting
But I don't believe that it was an accident
That you and I ended up meeting
Our time together may have been brief
And our friendship went up in flames
But if you hadn't put me through these trials
I wouldn't be who I am today
It's said that nothing lasts forever
I don't think that's completely true
It's the things you can't see that last forever
Like the life lessons I learned from you

Not What I Planned
This is a poem I wrote on August 2, 2010. I wrote this poem after experiencing a ruined weekend getaway and all the stress associated with it. Our car broke down a long ways from home, and my brother-in-law had to come get us and tow us home. What a miserable experience that ended up being!
I wish I could understand
Why my life hasn't gone exactly as planned
I wonder why I have to deal with all the stress
And have to pick up after the mess
Right now, I just want to frown
It's all because my life is bringing me down
So I find myself wishing that this is all a dream
And I wish nothing is what it seems
I wish I could understand
Why my life hasn't gone exactly as planned
I wonder why I have to deal with all the stress
And have to pick up after the mess
Right now, I just want to frown
It's all because my life is bringing me down
So I find myself wishing that this is all a dream
And I wish nothing is what it seems

Not So Long Ago
This started out as lyrics my sister and I wrote together in the mid-1980s, and I used the title to write a poem in the early 1990s. When I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it had turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on August 17, 2009, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who is looking back and realizing how much they have changed in such a short amount of time.
Once upon a time, and not so long ago
My life was so much different than it is today
It's gotten to the point that I no longer know
Who I'm seeing when I look at old pictures of myself
It seems so much has changed in such a short time
I'm no longer the person that I used to be
I've found all of the reasons and all of the rhyme
That I simply didn't understand, not so long ago
Once upon a time, and not so long ago
My life was so much different than it is today
It's gotten to the point that I no longer know
Who I'm seeing when I look at old pictures of myself
It seems so much has changed in such a short time
I'm no longer the person that I used to be
I've found all of the reasons and all of the rhyme
That I simply didn't understand, not so long ago

No Time
This started out as lyrics I wrote in the early 1990s. I re-worked the lyrics into a poem on August 24, 2009. It's about being busy and not having time to do the things that you want to do.
These days, it seems
I have no time to give
And no time to live
All I do is work
And I feel
I have no time for me
And no time to see
The world around me
And so it goes
I have no time to rest
And no time for guests
There's no time for fun
These days, it seems
I have no time to give
And no time to live
All I do is work
And I feel
I have no time for me
And no time to see
The world around me
And so it goes
I have no time to rest
And no time for guests
There's no time for fun

Mondays
This is a poem I wrote on November 3, 2008. In it, the speaker laments the fact that they don't like Mondays.
Mondays, Mondays
Oh, how I don't like Mondays
It means the week is new
There's just so much to do
Mondays, Mondays
Oh, how I don't like Mondays
Mondays just make me blue
And wish the week was through
Mondays, Mondays
Oh, how I don't like Mondays
It means the week is new
There's just so much to do
Mondays, Mondays
Oh, how I don't like Mondays
Mondays just make me blue
And wish the week was through

No One Knows
This started out as lyrics I wrote in the early 1990s. I re-worked the lyrics into a poem on August 10, 2009, and it's about trying to hide your secrets from the world.
There is a lot about you
That you hope no one knows
You keep your skeletons
Locked inside your closet
You hide your nasty habits
And you hope that your secrets
Don't see the light of day
And that no one will know
You are bound and determined
To make absolutely sure
That no one will find out
What it is that you hide
There is a lot about you
That you hope no one knows
You keep your skeletons
Locked inside your closet
You hide your nasty habits
And you hope that your secrets
Don't see the light of day
And that no one will know
You are bound and determined
To make absolutely sure
That no one will find out
What it is that you hide
