First Time in Love

This is a poem I originally wrote in the early 1990s. When I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it had turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on March 23, 2009. It's from the point of view of a speaker reflecting on the first time they fell in love.


Once upon a time
In another time and in another place
I had met you
And fell in love at first sight
It was the first time
I'd ever fallen in love
And I hoped and dreamed
That maybe you loved me, too
But in the end
It turned out to be one-sided
It was my first time in love
But it wasn't my last time
In love
