This is a poem I wrote on June 13, 2011. It's from the point of view of a speaker who has been blindsided by a surprise in their life. As someone who's pushing 40, I've definitely experienced a number of surprises during my lifetime.
Another surprise has come my way
And I have no idea what to say
I wish I knew how to deal
Because this feels so unreal
And I know I have so much to learn
But I don't know which way I should turn
I never thought I'd find you gone
I need someone's shoulder to cry on
