Shattering The Image

This started out as a poem I wrote in the early 1990s. When I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it had turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on November 2, 2009, and the speaker of this poem is giving advice to someone who may not be happy with who they are.

Look in the mirror and see what you find
Does it live up to what's in your mind?
Are you content with what you see
Or do you wish it looked differently?

Shatter the image if you're unhappy
But only make changes willingly
It's the first step in going far
In being happy with who you are
