This is a poem I wrote back in either 1992 or 1993, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who wants to get involved in a "forbidden" relationship.
I knew the day I met you
That my feelings for you were true
But there are obstacles in the way
And yet I'm still trying every day
Now I know you love me, too
But "they" say I'm not right for you
It just doesn't matter how "they" feel
I know that my love for you is real
"They" try to keep us apart
To tear us apart at the heart
So we must keep our feelings hidden
Because "they" say our love's forbidden
