This is a poem I wrote back in the early 1990s, and it's from the point of view of a speaker who realizes they need to break away from an unhealthy relationship and move on with their life.
All you seemed to do was bring me down
You seemed to be a real hindrance
Now I can finally see
You thought of me as some kind of clown
I needed to change some time ago
I've been indecisive too long
Now I can finally see
Burdens from the past I must let go
It's time to go our separate ways
It's time for us to say goodbye
Now I can finally see
That I'm out in search of better days
