I originally wrote this poem in the early 1990s. When I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it had turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on September 7, 2009, and it's about childhood friends growing up and going their separate ways.
We made a promise when we were younger
That we would stay friends forever
But, back then we never
Realized how much we'd change as time went on
It was a promise that we couldn't keep
We tried, but it was all in vain
We couldn't stop the rain
Of tears that flowed when it all came to an end
