This is a poem I wrote on October 27, 2008. It tackles the issue of domestic violence.
Last night, she thought she fell in love
And that he was a gift from up above
But she would soon learn she was living in a dream
And that he wasn't what he seemed
Last night, a young child cried out
It was so loud, it sounded like a shout
It was the third time the police were called that week
Because of the father's mean streak
Last night, I watched the evening news
And saw some stories that I hoped weren't true
A woman and a young child has lost their lives
I just couldn't believe my eyes
