Blinded By Love

This is a poem I originally wrote in the early 1990s. When I re-read the original version of the poem a few years ago, I wasn't satisfied with how it turned out. I wrote this second version of the poem on December 22, 2008; it's from the point of view of a speaker who has been deceived.

I thought I had it all
The great guy and the great life
I thought I was in a fairytale
That would never come to an end

Although I heard the whispers
Behind my back
I thought it was all gossip
From people trying to destroy our lives

My friends kept telling me
To quit being blinded by love
And that I needed to open my eyes
But I chose to ignore their warnings

But one day, it all came crashing down
When I learned that all that I had heard
Was true after all
And that I had been blinded by love
