Fancy Free

This originally started out as lyrics my sister and I wrote together in the mid-1980s. In the early 1990s, I used the title to write a poem; however, when I re-read the poem a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it had turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on February 9, 2009, and this version is about remembering what it was like to be young.

Back when I was a child
Life was just fun and fancy free
Now that I'm older
I try to hold on to those times
As much as I can
While I can't be as carefree
Or as irresponsible
As I was when I was younger
I never want to truly forget
About how it is
To be fancy free
