Faces in the Moonlight

This is a poem I originally wrote in the early 1990s, back when I was in high school. When I re-read it a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it turned out. I wrote this version of the poem on February 23, 2009, and it's about being haunted by the memories of those who have gone. I'd already lost some people that I knew at the time I wrote this version of the poem, and in the intervening five years, I've lost even more.  :(

Sometimes, when I lie awake at night
And look up at the ceiling
I think I can see the faces
Of those who have gone
But it's only a trick
Of the moonlight
Shining through my window
And I wish that these faces in the moonlight
Would quit haunting me
