Eyes of a Child

This is a poem I originally wrote in the early 1990s, back when I was in high school. When I re-read it a few years back, I wasn't happy with how it turned out. I wrote this version on February 6, 2009, and it's about innocence and purity fading away into nothingness. Fortunately, I've been able to continue seeing through the eyes of a child thanks to my children. :)

When you see the world
Through the eyes of a child
Everything seems so pure
And so innocent
And when you see life
Through the eyes of a child
It seems that happiness
Will last forever
But when you stop looking
Through the eyes of a child
The innocence and purity
Fade away into nothingness...
